DEVELOP KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING ABOUT THE FOLLOWING
- Anatomy and physiology of the human body and how this relates to exercise and health, including postural and core stability.
- Nutrition in relation to physical activity programmes and of the strong links to diet and physical activity.
- Design, manage, and adapt a personal training programme with adults of all ages.
- Delivering exercise and physical activity as part of a programme for adults of all ages.
- Setting up and promoting your own personal training or fitness business.
- key principles of exercise, fitness and health, including the components, principles and variables of fitness, the health and benefits of physical activity and the importance of healthy eating
- Effective working relationships with clients, how to provide ongoing customer services, and how to support clients to adhere to exercise/physical activity.
- Maintain health, safety and welfare in a fitness environment, including the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults.
ENTRY REQUIRMENTS
You should be 16 years old at a minimum to be able to undertake this qualification.
Physical fitness at a good level is desired
Have some gym experience of exercises including free weights is recommended.
Have basic skills in communication.

INTRODUCTION
This qualification will provide learners with a combination of knowledge and skills to prescribe, plan and deliver safe and effective exercise programmes and personal training sessions to a range of clients.
QUALIFICATION STRUCTURE
The learner must complete the eleven mandatory units:
- Unit 1: Principles of anatomy, physiology and fitness
- Unit 2: Professionalism and customer care for fitness instructors
- Unit 3: Health and safety in the fitness environment
- Unit 4: Conducting client consultations to support positive behaviour change
- Unit 5: Planning and instructing gym-based exercise
- Unit 6: Applied anatomy and physiology for exercise, health and fitness
- Unit 7: The principles of nutrition and their application to exercise and health
- Unit 8: Understanding lifestyle, health, wellbeing and common medical conditions
- Unit 9: Encouraging positive health and fitness behaviours in clients
- Unit 10: Programme design and delivery for personal training
- Unit 11: Professionalism and business acumen for personal trainers
ASSESSMENT
This qualification is assessed by:
- Coursework.
- Portfolio of evidence.
- Practical demonstration/assignment.
- Multiple-choice exam.
